Organic

We at Freedom Scents spend a lot of happy hours sourcing ingredients for our fragrance formulas. As you have probably gathered, we only use organic plant extracts and essences that are certified and here is where things get complex.

The certification process at its best is a wonderful thing enabling us to trust in the authenticity of organic products, but at its worst its confusing - though not on purpose. It is never the difference between Organic or not Organic - different certifications are based on different percentages of ā€˜organicnessā€™ and when it comes to organic, something can be 100% organic (rarely), 90% organic and anything all the way down to 5% - I know right? Thankfully, specific certifications represent specific percentages of organicness.

Obviously 5% Organic is better than nothing, but if you are looking for totally or very organic, you will need to dig deeper - as we have done - &look closer at the certification.

Know Your Certifications

I admit it sounds tedious and it is convoluted enough to to drive you mad enough that you yourself may be certified. So seeing as we have researched all our ingredients fully (and managed to escape being certified) I thought I would share the skinny on organic certifications for the most organicness. Then if you want to be choosing the very best organic products that everybody deserves, I suggest you burn the logos below onto your retina for future recognition.(N.B I cannot take responsibility for any actions resulting from the reading of this post).

On The Other Hand

All things considered, choosing products with ethically wildcrafted ingredients goes beyond organic. Plants grown organically on small, independent family farms grow beyond the certification bureaucracy. Even if there is a certification in place, the process is too expensive for the farmers and stewards who tend this land. Nevertheless, these farmers and stewards have a deep respect and understanding of nature using traditionally organic farming methods of nurture and the extracts from their crops are organic and high quality.

We fully support this sector of the non-certified organic community & we hope you will too. Even further afield are the escapees of all places fenced, the plants and trees growing in the wild. They may have escaped the fences, but not the licenses! These fall into the new label category of Wildcrafted or Wild-harvested and they are naturally organic.

We also support the wild harvesting community wholeheartedly. Some of our most exquisite extracts come from them and wild plants really fit in with the Freedom Scents ethos.
